Dreams and Wakefulness

Weekend intensive physical theatre workshop with Kostas Charalampous, with hungarian interpretation

Is it suitable for you?

Genre: physical theatre workshop

Difficulty level: suitable for both beginners and advanced participants, but be ready to move, and feel comfortable with dancing and working on the floor.

Prerequisite: none

Date: February 15-16, 2025, Saturday-Sunday, 10 AM - 5 PM, with a one-hour lunch break.

Goal

The goal of the workshop is to help participants develop a deeper connection with their bodies and discover their expressive potential. Through various exercises, we will explore how movement can convey emotions, tell stories, and touch deeper layers in the audience. Improvisation will allow us not only to discover new movement forms but also to bring forth inner experiences that emerge through spontaneity and instincts. The aim is for participants to realize that the body is not only a tool for self-expression but also a universal language capable of touching everyone—both the viewer and the performer.

About the workshop

Our body will be our tool as we explore new dimensions of time, space, and emotions. We will start with improvisation, aiming to liberate the spontaneity of the body. Improvisation offers the chance to let go of conventional patterns and find fresh, instinctive movements that lead to new pathways of expression.

As we move through the space, we will delve deeper into how the body narrates stories and communicates emotions. By the end of the process, we will create scenes that balance on the edge between dreams and nightmares. These scenes will uncover and convey emotions through the subtle nuances of movement, allowing the audience to resonate with their own experiences. This framework forms the essence of the workshop: creating feelings, spaces, and stories through the power of movement.

Course leader: Kostas Charalampous

I was born in Athens, Greece, and started dancing at the age of 14. My first experience with dance came through hip-hop culture, which I loved and still try to incorporate into my dance style. At the age of 20, I discovered contemporary dance and was convinced it was my path. After two years of preparation to become a professional dancer, I was accepted at the National School of Dance in Greece at the age of 22. I studied there for three years and had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Athanasia Kanellopoulou, Fotis Nikolaou, Blenard Azizaj, and Daphnis Kokkinos. I am currently working with the Eva Duda Dance Company and am excited to see what the future holds.
